Who we need
You will be a dynamic individual with extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of managing major investment programmes. You will be able to quickly identify, develop and deliver appropriate tactical strategies to minimise disruption, manage travel demand and maintain resilience across the networks. You will be a confident negotiator and able to influence external programmes. You will have built excellent technical knowledge and practical understanding of transport planning throughout your career. You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills and understand the importance of building and maintaining relationships across the directorate as well as with external partners and investors.

About the role
You will manage the coordination and delivery of tactical strategies to minimise disruptive impacts of major scheme delivery across the region. This will mean working across major investment programmes including HS2, Midland Metro Extension, the Commonwealth Games capital programme and major highway investment programmes to take a holistic view of all major schemes to ensure conflicts are managed out and appropriate mitigations are put in place. The role will have a strong and particular focus on maintaining resilience on the Key Route Network and local bus network.

The role will work closely with colleagues across the Network Resilience Directorate, TfWM bus team and other regional programme partners; principally, this will focus on identification and delivery of mitigation and targeted interventions to help keep the region moving through disruption. This could include highway scheme development to maintain resilience for local buses, working with transport operators to provide increased capacity during demand surges and development of travel demand management strategies.

About the team
The West Midlands transport system is seeing some of its largest investment in recent years with projects being delivered across the region from key partners such as High Speed Two, Highways England, Local Authorities, Network Rail and Transport for West Midlands. While this essential investment takes place to meet the demands of a growing population, the Network Resilience directorate aims to keep residents and businesses moving through these works by improving efficiency of the existing network and managing demand to reduce congestion.

With large events such as the Coventry City of Culture 2021 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games about to put the West Midlands on the international stage and set to bring millions of extra visitors in to the region, the team are involved in supporting the planning of these events with the aim of providing a seamless travel experience on our integrated transport system.

At the heart of the team is the new Regional Transport Coordination Centre which aims to proactively monitor and support our transport operation while providing customers with more reliable information and choice on their travel options.

Network Resilience is a team of various transport specialisms, working together with our internal and external partners to help keep the West Midlands moving.
