Join TfWM to shape the future of transport & data insight in a globally significant change programme.
Who we are
Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) plans, develops and manages an integrated transport system for the West Midlands that is reliable, affordable and accessible for all. It is the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority.
A standard setter in the industry, our achievements are regularly recognised nationally, most importantly as the winner of ‘City Region Authority of the Year’ in 2016, 2017 and 2019 at the National Transport Awards.
Whether it’s developing and delivering new infrastructure, collaborating on future mobility projects, operating the West Midlands Metro or helping customers to keep moving, we need creative and innovative talent to join our already excellent team and help us make a real difference to residents, businesses and visitors travelling in and around the West Midlands.
About the team
This is an exciting time for the West Midlands – with Coventry’s City of Culture in 2021, the Commonwealth Games here in 2022, and the arrival of HS2 which will help make us a world class business location. All supported by a massive local programme of bus rapid transit, highway improvements, bike hire, new metro lines and new local rail stations. Together we are forging new standards and new solutions for urban living and enabling social and economic growth. We are at the epi-centre of much of the UK’s research and are piloting new mobility services and data driven systems. We have a globally unique and massive programme of innovation and data science. This is driving a revolution in our transport system and enabling the delivery of an unprecedented scale of infrastructure investment. We deliver insight and analytics built on real-time data.
This makes for a uniquely challenging and evolving environment. We are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that will build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands, a region which is trial blazing a new approach for the UK.
As a highly successful team we take a very creative approach focusing on intelligence led policy, built on quality research, performance analytics, operational and strategic transport forecasting. The job is continually evolving to meet the challenges we currently face. You do not have to be a transport expert to join us, but you do need to have an innovative and can-do mind set and be determined to explore new possibilities.
We are seeking new colleagues to join our dynamic, growing and highly agile team in our Policy, Strategy and Innovation Department of Transport for West Midlands.
Who we need
You will take products through discovery, alpha, beta and live phases of development with the goal of making Data Insight services simpler, easier and faster to use. You will devise and iterate the product roadmap and backlog, be a champion for user needs, document product knowledge, and communicate plans and progress through various channels including the blog, stakeholder meetings and demos. You will demonstrate our suite of digital products to get buy-in and cross-partner support for our work.
You’ll be part of an agile, multidisciplinary team, working across a complex digital estate with external partners and customers. You’ll need to overcome obstacles and manage dependencies as well as think strategically to prioritise work that balances user needs, business requirements and technical constraints.
In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.
This is a remote working opportunity until a date is agreed for the WMCA workforce to return to our usual place of work at 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham.
Our priority is to keep all our employees safe and well during this time. We will be working remotely for the foreseeable future, and we are doing everything we can to ensure all our employees can enjoy a comfortable remote working space.
