In these extraordinary times, the need for strong regional leadership has never been more important. At the West Midlands Combined Authority we’re building the future with a shared vision of a happier, healthier, better connected, and more prosperous region – a fast-growing global force with huge potential and ambition.

Delivering good jobs for local people and giving them the skills, they need to succeed is vital to our success and at the heart of the work of our Productivity and Skills Directorate. Great communications is key to the delivery of our work in this area and we’re looking for an exceptional communicator to work with us to lead on the development of innovative campaigns, effective stakeholder engagement with our partners, and raise the profile of the work we do.

Your role will be to maximise impact, engagement, and reach of the Productivity and Skills activity by providing a strategic approach to communication activity – including media, digital communications, and marketing campaigns – that is proactively planned around known events and aligned with broader regional context. This will involve developing a comprehensive forward planner of events, initiatives, and communications, ensuring that the most effective and appropriate communication strategies and approaches are deployed to support the work of the Productivity and Skill Directorate and lead the development and delivery of the Directorate’s overall communications strategy and specific tactical communications plans across all areas of jobs and skills activity.

The role is being offered on a six-month temporary basis.

About you

An accomplished Communications extraordinaire, you’ll have a solid background in public relations campaign planning and evaluation with experience of delivering communications across all disciplines, including media and public relations, marketing and campaigns, and digital and social media. You’ll have the confidence and gravitas to get things done and be able to work effectively with colleagues in our Communications Team. If you have an understanding of the employment and skills sector, then we’d love to hear from you.
